Amanda Knox’s Perugia trial has departed to the judges, and she and her co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito, may perhaps find out Friday night or Saturday whether they’ll walk free or spend the rest of their life behind bars.
The judges begin debate about 10:40 am local, and are expected to take at least 10 or 12 hours in making a final decision. The judges is made up of eight people, includes two judges.
Both Knox and Sollecito are charged with murder and sexual assault in the dead of Meredith Kercher, the British scholar and roommate of Amanda who was stabbed to death in Nov. of 2007.
Rudy Guede an Ivory Coast resident arrested soon after Knox and Sollecito, decided on for a speedy trial. He was found guilty and vindicated to 30 years in prison.
The defense lawyers have argued that there’s no purpose for murder and that there’s no objective proof linking Amanda to the sight of the crime. Particularly, they say there’s no suggestion of Amanda’s footprints or fingerprints anywhere in the room in which Meredith was murdered.
Defense lawyers have fiercely contested scientific work showing DNA from Raffaele on Meredith’s bra clasp and from Amanda on the knife that the trial believes to be the one used to murder Meredith.
Kercher’s family who have mostly stayed away from the trial are expected to be present for the judgment.
