Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus was lovingly concerned with a former staffer when he suggested her earlier this year to suit the next United States attorney for Montana, a spokesperson said.
The Montana Democrat and his former state office director Melodee Hanes started their connection in the summer of 2008 after Baucus divorced from his wife, Ty Matsdorf statement to The Associated Press late Friday.
Baucus listed Hanes for the United states attorney position in March. But she later on withdrew, saying she had been offered with other opportunities she couldn’t let pass.

The Senate leader on selection to manage Democratic health care legislation through a rare session Saturday, had submitted six names to a third party reviewer, who cutted those to Hanes and two others. Matsdorf said the senator sent the three names to the White House with no position to decide on a nominee.
Matsdorf said Baucus connection with his girlfriend had not anything to do with his judgment.
“Senator Baucus suggested each of the three nominees based only on qualifications and merit, eloquent whichever one the White House selected would provide Montana well”, Matsdorf said.
The spokesperson said Baucus and Hanes decided during the nomination procedure that she should pull out her name as the couple wanted to live together in Washington, which they later on did.
