Kabul, Afghanistan news updates, Taliban attacks Kabul in biggest fidayeen strike; US condemned a bloody attack on Monday as a “desperate,” and “ruthless” act by the Taliban, but warned that more assaults should be likely in the war torn nation.

Afghan Defence Ministry spokesperson Zahir Azimy said, army troops were battling the guerrillas more than an hour after the attack started.

“It’s not surprising that the Taliban do this sort of thing”, US special spokesperson to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke told reporters in New Delhi; he added, “The people doing this certainly will not survive the attack nor will they succeed; but we can expect this sort of thing on a regular basis”.

“A group of Taliban entered Kabul this morning, and attacked the Finance, Justice, and Defense Ministries, the National Bank and, the Presidential Palace and near the Serena Hotel”, said Zabiullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesperson reached by telephone.
