Massachusetts Special Election 2010 Polls closed in a tight Massachusetts Senate race for the United States Senate on Tuesday that could threaten channel of President Barack Obama’s legislative agenda, and spoil his push for a sweeping healthcare service.
Massachusetts special election results as follows, “A Brown win in today’s special election”, the Chamber says, “could pay immediate dividends by throwing into question the future of health care reform legislation pending in Congress”.
What once looked likely to be an effortless Democratic victory has turned into an anxious scramble after a surge by Republican state Senator Scott Brown, over the past few weeks in the race for the late liberal Democratic icon Edward Kennedy’s old seat.
Brown led Democratic state Attorney General Martha Coakley by an edge of 53 percent to 46 percent, with about 23 percent of the state’s 2168 precincts coverage.
A Brown victory over Coakley would take from Democrats of the 60th Senate vote they need to overcome Republican procedural hurdles; voter worries about the economy, and healthcare reform have helped Brown, and Obama made a trip to the state on Sunday to try to ignite enthusiasm for Coakley.
